Urge incontinence is the sudden, hard-to-hold need to pass urine, with leaking before you reach the toilet. BTL names urge among the three types of urinary incontinence the chair treats, and the US clearance covers urinary incontinence in women and men by rehabilitating weak pelvic muscles and restoring neuromuscular control, without naming a type. In the main published study the urge-only group's symptom scores fell by 27% after the sixth session and by 54% three months later. A course is six sessions of 28 minutes over three weeks, sitting fully clothed, at Emsella Clinic, 8 Devonshire Place, with the price in writing at a free consultation.
Where the chair helps with urgency
A stronger pelvic floor gives you more time to reach the toilet and more control when the urge comes, which may be why the urge-only group improved in the study. The bladder muscle itself, which drives the urgency, is not what the chair trains, and we say so plainly: bladder training and medicines treat the bladder, the chair treats the floor beneath it, and the two are often used together.
What the study measured
In the main study of 75 women, 11% had urge incontinence only. Their scores fell by 27% after the sixth session and by 54% at three months, a real improvement but less than the stress group's 67%. Across the whole study, scores fell by about 64% at three months. The does it work page sets out every study.
When to see your GP first
A sudden onset, blood in the urine, pain, frequent infections, incomplete emptying or a neurological condition need a doctor's assessment before any private treatment, because urgency has causes the chair does not touch. The clinician at the free consultation asks about these and says if a referral comes first.
The course and booking
Six sessions, twice a week over three weeks, with the symptom score measured before, at the end and at the six-month review. Call Emsella Clinic on 0207 099 9659 or use the form below. The clinician works out with you how much of your urgency is the pelvic floor and tells you plainly what the chair can and cannot do for it; the full Emsella guide covers the rest.
