Leaking after prostate surgery is common, it is a pelvic floor problem, and the Emsella chair treats it the same way it treats incontinence in women: by making the pelvic floor contract thousands of times a session while you sit fully clothed. The chair has been FDA-cleared in the US for urinary incontinence in men as well as women since 2018. In a 2025 study of 27 men treated after radical prostatectomy (removal of the whole prostate), symptom scores were about 60% lower one month after the course, with no adverse events reported. A course is six sessions of 28 minutes over three weeks at Emsella Clinic, 8 Devonshire Place, with the price in writing at a free consultation.
Why men leak after prostate surgery
Removing the prostate takes away part of the mechanism that closes the bladder outlet, and the pelvic floor has to do more of the work. Most men regain control over months with pelvic floor exercises; for those who do not, or who want to speed it up, strengthening the floor is the treatment, and the chair does the contracting at an intensity exercises cannot reach.
What the study measured
Twenty-seven men after radical prostatectomy had the six-session course: their ICIQ-SF symptom scores fell from 10.6 to 5.4 after the sixth session, a 53% fall, and to 4.2 at one month, 61% lower, with no adverse events reported. It is a single-centre study without a control group, and the published follow-up is one month, so we also measure your own score before and after, and you see your own numbers.
When to start
Once your surgeon or urologist says you have healed; pelvic surgery that is still healing rules the chair out until then. The chair is not used with a pacemaker or any electronic implant, metal implants in the pelvis including a hip replacement, or an untreated cancer, and the clinician checks each at the free consultation. If you are still under the urologist's care, we work alongside it.
Not for erectile dysfunction
The chair is cleared for urinary incontinence; a trial of the chair for male sexual function is recruiting and has published nothing, so we make no claim for it.
The session
You sit on the chair fully clothed for 28 minutes and feel the pelvic floor contract in pulses, strong, at a level you can hold, and the clinician brings it down if you ask. No probe, nothing inserted, no downtime. Six sessions, twice a week, over three weeks, then reviews at the end of the course and at six months. The how it works page explains the chair, and the sessions page the course.
